Our Purpose

"An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people."

~Not Thomas Jefferson, Ever

The internet is a funny thing. It provides almost limitless potential to educate, inform, and leverage common understanding toward the common good. That is, if we can sort through all of the garbage.

Human beings are extraordinarily poor at objectively evaluating information. Often by necessity, we rely on those closest to us, our 'tribes', to inform us about the state of the world. Unfortunately, our sources are sometimes less than reliable, and even with best intentions, can lose discard context and nuance in pursuit of a narrative. The internet quote above is an example – it 'feels' true, doesn't it?

But the truth is better:

"If a nation expects to be ignorant & free, in a state of civilisation, it expects what never was & never will be. The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty & property of their constituents. There is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves; nor can they be safe with them without information"
~Thomas Jefferson, Jan 6, 1816

Jefferson's Electorate seeks to provide the public with the information necessary to safeguard their liberty and property. We seek to reconnect the public with the wellspring of data that underpins our most difficult national conversations. We will provide the tools necessary to understand difficult concepts and empower citizens to draw their own conclusions. We look forward to an American Public capable of scrutinizing spurious conclusions drawn from poorly represented data, and rejecting those seeking to spin it.
